Savannah is like a history book, with each of its pages filled with many interesting and endearing tales of its citizens. So if you live in this picturesque city, you’d better know how to tell stories. In an attempt to add yet another page to this ever growing book, here’s a tail, uhmm, tale of our adventure.

Guess I’d better be lady-like and introduce myself. My name is Kai, which by the way translates to “ocean” in Hawaiian or “open” in Mandarin Chinese. I am a mutt. A proud mutt, I may add, a perfect mixture of the elegances of Labrador and Dalmatian. When you gaze upon me you will notice that I am always well-dressed in black and white, as if perfectly in a tuxedo with white gloves on my paws.

My brother Riley is a tan and white Labrador and Border Collie mix. He is quite famous for his quickness and agility. Throw a ball or a toy and he’ll race to retrieve it. Much of the time, using his speed and strong jaw, he will gracefully fetch it in the air. I often marvel at his talent.

In Hollywood style, we drove across the country from Los Angeles, California to our new home. It was quite exciting as we eagerly anticipated our new environment of “Southern Hospitality.” It was a welcome change, and we certainly are loving it here where the living is a little bit laid back.

Shortly after our arrival we came upon an American Bulldog who was living on the streets. He followed us for a few days as he was down on his luck and had been lost for a few weeks. We told him he could come live with us, and we called him Cosmo because the black spots on his face and body against his white coat looked like a group of planets.

Cosmo is still very much a puppy and always wants to run. He can go for blocks without stopping, and Riley and I keep up with him as best as we can. This is how we came upon the beautiful Forsyth Park in downtown Savannah. We stopped to catch our breaths and noticed the vast expanse of grass and trees and walking paths. What a doggie paradise!

On our numerous walks through the park we have made friends with many canines, and their humans as well. We feel at home here, so we decided to create a place where all of our friends could hang out. “Yeah…it should be big enough to fill with all of our favorite food and toys,” added Riley. “Don’t forget treats…we must have lots of treats,” Cosmo barked out. “We also need things to help us look pretty, such as collars, shampoos, and grooming brushes” I said. “And, of course, let’s not forget something for our human friends,” I added.

“You know, we should bring them BOBA from the West Coast,” Riley excitedly yelped. I nudged Riley in approval. “BOBA?” questioned Cosmo. “People will like it, you’ll see” answered Riley. “It’s a tea-based ice-blended smoothie with tapioca pearls added, kind of like small chewy marshmallows - it’s really tasty” added Riley. The three of us extended our paws, on top of another, signifying a pact between two brothers and a sister.

Together we found a cool place just a block away from the historic Forsyth Park for dogs, cats (yes, cats too) and humans and called it TailsSpin.
